JD Sports Fashion plc is a British sporting goods retail company headquartered in Shaw and Crompton, Greater Manchester, England. It is the largest UK sportswear and fashion retailer by revenue, as of 2023. JD Sports was founded in 1981 by John Wardle and Peter Jones in Bury, Greater Manchester. The company initially sold casual sportswear, such as tracksuits and trainers, and quickly expanded to other parts of the UK. In the 1990s, JD Sports began to expand overseas, opening stores in France, Spain, and Portugal. In 2002, the company acquired the US-based chain Finish Line, which gave it a presence in the North American market.
